OBD II Codes (P0000 - P0099) | P0000 “No trouble”

OBD II Codes (P0000 - P0099) | P0000 “No trouble”

Meaning:

No diagnostic trouble codes detected

causes:

Using a cheaper or less powerful diagnostic tool
Using a diagnostic tool that does not support your vehicle

Symptoms:

This is the awkward part: you may or may never experience any vehicle problems with DTC P0000 DTC. The MIL may illuminate (or not), and you may experience drivability issues (or not)

Effect caused:

Using a cheaper or less powerful diagnostic tool
Using a diagnostic tool that does not support your vehicle

Diagnosis:

If you only see this DTC and have no symptoms, generally you can just keep driving and not worry about it. You can clean up the code and check it later to see if the code returns. If so, you can use a more advanced diagnostic tool next time.
If you have symptoms of the problem and have other trouble codes along with P0000, you should focus on recovering the other trouble codes first.
If there are no other codes and you have symptoms of a problem, you should read the trouble codes again using a different, more advanced code scanner. Be sure to check with the tool manufacturer to see if your vehicle is supported.

Solution:

The most common potential repairs to address the P0000 code are as follows:

• If the MIL is not on, and you are experiencing no drivability issues, then chances are that the scan tool you are using is defaulting to the “P0000 – No DTCs Reported” reading. Keep calm and drive on!
• On the other hand, if the MIL is on or you are experiencing drivability issues, then it’s most likely that the scan tool you are using isn’t 100% capable of reading your vehicle. In addition to the 1,000 P0xx DTCs specified by SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers), there are thousands of additional manufacturer-specific DTCs. Additionally, there are systems that some scan tools simply aren’t designed to handle, such as the CAN (controller area network) or the hybrid controller on a Prius.
• After making sure that your scan tool software is updated, check again. If you still come up with DTC P0000, you will need a compatible scan tool, or ask your friendly local dealer technician if he can hook up the factory scan tool to retrieve stored DTCs.
