Low or Discharged Battery

Low or Discharged Battery

With a seriously drained battery, your best option is to revive it by a jump start either with the help of another vehicle or using a portable jump starter.

Using another vehicle or battery:

• Identify where each car’s battery is.
• Move the two vehicle closer to connect jumper cable but not touching each other
• Attach one red jumper cable clamp to the positive terminal on the dead battery.
• Attach the second red jumper cable clamp, to the positive terminal on the working (live) car battery.
• Attach one black jumper cable clamp to the negative terminal of the working (live) car’s battery.
• Attach the second black jumper cable clamp, to an unpainted piece of stationary metal on the car with the dead battery. Do not attach this clamp to the negative terminal on the dead car’s battery.
• Then start the car with dead battery after starting it then
• Disconnect the connections (in reverse order of the connection).

Using a portable jump starter:

• When beginning the process, the jump starter, your car and its auxiliary features should be off
• The jump starter comes with two clamps [red (the positive) and black (the negative), connect them to the jump starter (if not connected), the red clamp goes to the red terminal while the black goes to the black terminal.
• Then connect the red clamp from the other end to the positive terminal on your car battery
• Then the black one to either an unpainted piece of metal in the engine or directly to the frame of your car (Don’t attach the negative (black) clamp to the negative terminal of the dead battery, in order to reduce the risk of sparking that could cause explosion)
• power on the jump starter
• Then turn in the ignition to start and hold for a couple of seconds if necessary.
• If a couple of seconds doesn’t start the car, give the battery pack a few minutes to cool down and prepare itself before making another attempt. If the jump start is successful, you should hear your engine turn over and begin to run on its own. Congratulations!
• You can now disconnect the jump starter cables
